If you are reading this then you most likely have a picky child!

If your child is at home you will ensure they finish all their veggies during lunch and drink plenty of water throughout the day. But how do you guarantee this when they are at school? Your already picky child may avoid drinking water as they’ll be distracted by friends, toys and other activities.

Here are four things you can do to encourage your child to drink their daily recommended amount of water and stay hydrated.

1- Use fun bottles!

Kids love fun things that they can also play with. If their bottle is something they love, they would most certainly want to have it with them at all times. It can also remind them to sip on the water inside it! An added benefit here is that instead of giving them bottled water made out of plastic, they can have their own special reusable bottles and hence not generate any single-use plastic waste! From bottles with their favorite cartoon characters to ones with games – modern times have a variety of options!

2- Enhance the taste of water

Pure water does not have any flavor. Children do not prefer the bland taste of water. It does not encourage them to drink more of it. Add vegetables like cucumbers or fruits and berries to the water to improve its taste. On the other hand, different sources of water can have different flavors. This also varies based on the excess of certain minerals. Use a custom water purifier that does not under or over-purify your water giving it the perfect mix of minerals and nutrients and a sweet taste!

3- Leave a note!

What better way to remind your child of something than by leaving handwritten notes on their bottle, lunch boxes or pencil boxes? This way, when they open a particular item or glance at it, they have their personal water reminders! If they do not know how to read whole sentences, you can use stickers or drawings of water!

4- Maintain a reward system

The promise of a reward can give the child a purpose. They will ensure that the task is done in order to win it. A reward does not have to be fancy. From words of appreciation to simple stickers, a reward system can be made out of anything!

Children and their growing bodies need to stay hydrated to ensure smooth and healthy bodily functions. Clean, safe and healthy drinking water becomes crucial as their immunities are also built during this stage. Habits developed early go a long way in their lives later. Children that are accustomed to drinking sufficient amounts of water grow up into adults that are also conscious of their water intake.
